Costa Rica 200 returns in 2027 with continued focus on athlete experience
One Hundred® has confirmed the return of Costa Rica 200 from 19 to 24 April 2027, with the championship's signature coast-to-coast ultra once again taking runners from the Caribbean to the Pacific through one of the world's most biodiverse landscapes.
The flagship 200-mile race will begin in the Cariari National Wetlands in Limón before traversing rainforest, mountains and remote communities, finishing in Quepos, Puntarenas. The 111K race will take place from 23 to 24 April, starting in Naranjito and finishing on the Pacific coast in Quepos.
Following feedback from athletes and crew, the organising team is reviewing both courses to further improve the race experience while preserving the character that has made Costa Rica 200 one of the world's most distinctive endurance events. Planned refinements could include additional jungle sections and more time spent within Costa Rica's tropical rainforest, further reinforcing the race's identity as an immersive wilderness crossing.
The 2027 edition will also introduce a series of operational improvements to elevate the athlete experience from arrival through to the finish line. Check-in procedures, race starts, aid stations and finish-line services are all being reviewed, alongside behind-the-scenes logistical and operational enhancements designed to strengthen safety and event delivery.
Sustainability remains a central focus as the organisation continues to reduce the event's environmental footprint while working towards becoming a carbon-neutral ultra-endurance event.
Since its inception, Costa Rica 200 has become more than an ultra-distance race. Stretching from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean through more than a dozen distinct microclimates, it combines endurance, adventure and environmental stewardship in a journey unlike any other on the global trail running calendar.
