Seven Lakes Half Marathon showcases Tajikistan’s mountain landscapes
The fourth edition of the Seven Lakes Half Marathon brought runners from across Central Asia and beyond to Penjikent, Tajikistan, from 31 July to 2 August, combining competitive racing with a course set among the region’s mountain lakes and valleys.
Held along sections of the historic Great Silk Road, the event featured 10K, 21K and Ekiden Relay races, with runners representing Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Japan, the USA and Switzerland. Fair weather and strong participation from nearby communities contributed to a lively event across the weekend.
Kyrgyzstan's Ozgurusheva Aiym won the women's 10K, while compatriot Akerov Yryskeldi took the men's race. In the 21K, Uzbekistan's Iomalieva Arofotkhon claimed the women's title, while Tajikistan's Boniezov Sievush won the men's race.
As a One Hundred® Candidate Event, the Seven Lakes Half Marathon is currently under assessment for potential inclusion in the One Hundred World Championship series, offering an opportunity to bring the championship to a distinctive new destination while connecting the event's sporting and environmental focus with the region's natural and cultural heritage.
